Once there was a boy named Jordan and he got Ginger from school. Him and Ginger played tag and they played at a park and that was fun. They played on his computer and they did homework.

Interview with Mrs. Leitch

Posted on November 21, 2008 in Uncategorized by Hobsonville

Today it was Mrs. Leitch who happily agreed to take part in an interview with Room 18. We had spent time this week making improvements on our interview skills, having learned lots from our interview with Mr. Couch last week.
We hope you enjoy finding out some new and interesting things about Mrs. Leitch!

You can access the interview from the same place as our interview with Mr. Couch. Click on the “Posts” button in the Gcast box at the top left of the blog. From there, you can select the interview.

(P.S. Thanks for agreeing to do the interview with us, Mrs. Leitch!)

Ginger Story 18

Ginger and I were playing Bubble Trouble on the computer. On Friday we went to basketball. Jordan and Ginger watched me score four fantastic goals. Afterwards we had the best Dominos pizza we have ever tasted!
On Saturday, Ginger and I jumped on the trampoline all day long, After that, we were very tired. That night Ginger and I had a sleepover in the lounge. During the night I got a bit scared and Ginger was snoring very loudly!!!!! That night, I rolled over Ginger and fell onto my brother’s friend Ian who was on a mattress. I felt sorry for Ginger when I rolled over him.
The next day, we went for a long drive to my cousin Ngarimu’s house just because it was his 21st birthday. I had two slices of sweet pavlova. One for me and one for Ginger! Ginger met lots of cousins and aunties and uncles. After that, we went to church and Ginger waited in the car for me. He was very brave and didn’t cry one bit. I love having Ginger. He makes me happy and he’s so very cuddly.

Webcast 13

Posted on November 14, 2008 in Uncategorized by Hobsonville

With so much excitement about our trip to the marae next week and our poem of the week being all about a taniwha, the students decided we needed a big scary taniwha behind us during the webcast! We also noticed that if you look closely enough, you’ll be able to spot koru patterns on the taniwha head. These look very similar to the ones that Room 18 learned to draw last term.

Highlights of this week’s webcast include Chloe singing out a poem- ‘Make it Click’. As well, James included so much expression while he was reading out the poem of the week that he even whispers some of what the Taniwha whispers!

You may also see that many of the Room 18 students have been losing teeth lately! We’re trying to keep the tooth fairy busy…but please understand that it’s a little bit more difficult for some of us to speak clearly right now with so many missing teeth! We’re trying out best. (-:

Interview With Mr. Couch

Posted on November 14, 2008 in Uncategorized by Hobsonville

WOW. What a great Friday! So much success once again!
Room 18 has been learning interview skills lately as part of our oral language programme.
We decided it was important to use all our great podcasting skills which are:
1) Introduce yourself.
2) Speak clearly.
3) Use the correct distance from your mouth to the mic.

In addition, our interview skills included:
1) Asking a question that the audience can understand easily.
2) Passing or holding the microphone so that the person being interviewed can be heard as well.

We voted on interviewing Mr. Couch. Fortunately, Mr. Couch happily agreed to take part in the interview! So today’s interview was full of questions that Room 18 thought YOU, the audience, would like to hear. We headed up to Room 2 with heads full of questions, success criteria, and nerves of steel. It was definitely a change of scenery for us to be in Room 2, and the live studio audience was HUGE. To hear how great Room 18 students are at interviewing now, please click on our podcast in the top left window of this blog (The GCAST window).

Marae Visit Information

Posted on November 7, 2008 in Uncategorized by Hobsonville

A notice will be going home shortly advising the date of our marae visit. The date has been set as November 19th (it’s a Wednesday). If the weather is absolutely HORRIBLY miserable then we’ll have a save day set as well. The save day has yet to be finalised, but will be mentioned in the notice going home next week.
I have had 3 parents offer their time and energy (as we are WALKING to the marae and back) and am in need of one more parent. If you are interested in helping out, you can leave a comment here on the blog, or see me in the classroom on Monday. (-:
THANKS!

Requirements

Posted on November 6, 2008 in Uncategorized by Hobsonville

Just a reminder that this term the students will be visiting a marae as well as doing some Christmas baking. To cover costs, there is an activity fee for the baking ($2) and the marae visit ($1). These fees need to be paid PRIOR to the students taking part. If you have not paid the fees in time, unfortunately, your lovely Room 18er will be unable to attend the very exciting and educational activities! )-:

Thanks,
Mr. Nash
